Legionella Remedial Works: How to Prioritise Actions

Risk assessments often produce more recommendations than a team can complete immediately, so prioritisation is essential.

Start with actions linked to loss of control: poor temperatures, stagnant pipework, vulnerable users, aerosol-generating outlets, contamination, or failed microbiological results.

Give every action an owner, due date, risk rating, interim control, and close-out evidence requirement. Without ownership, remedial lists quickly become background noise.

Where capital works take time, agree temporary controls such as enhanced flushing, outlet restrictions, sampling, warning signage, or increased temperature monitoring.

Review overdue high-risk actions at management level and challenge repeated recommendations that indicate the root cause has not been fixed.
